Shoulder joint injuries are common following falls on cold, snowy winter days and can sometimes lead to complex fractures and dislocations. Following a shoulder joint dislocation, acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations—another type of dislocation commonly seen in the shoulder region (the joint between the clavicle and the acromion process of the scapula)—may sometimes be accompanied by rare fractures.
You can review the results of the surgical procedure we performed on our 44-year-old male patient for an AC joint dislocation and coracoid process fracture that occurred following a fall while slipping on snow. In orthopedic injuries, three-dimensional reconstructions of computed tomography (CT) images facilitate our work by enabling us to understand fracture anatomy and plan surgical interventions; they also help us select the appropriate fixation method and place implants in the correct position.
